This was taken on the White Rim Trail and was typical of the day - BLOW THIS ONE UP
Here's a shot of the Shafer Switchbacks from the near the top. You can see the road doubling back and then over to the left is the next sections and in the center the section after that. |
Here we're near the bottom of the switchback. The canyon and off in the distance the snow capped peaks. Where we're staying is not far off in a straight line right down the center of this view - but there's no roads here that go in a straight line. |
Here's a shot from the White Rim Trail. The rest of the pictures are from the trail which is, from what we've heard one of the most scenic trails around. So there will be a couple more shots of the scenery. It was the main attraction of the day.... |
The trail is narrow in many places and this is a shot from one of those narrow spots. Not too high here - probably only a hundred feet or so to the bottom |
ok, tired of rocks?? The cactus is in bloom - or how about a tree :))
The guide book (yes we're using the aWell's book like everyone else from what I've seen) we're using directed us to a Colorado River overlook just about lunch time - so we stopped for our picnic.
Just a note for any wheeler's who read this - the guide book is a little off with my speedometer, but close enough that we can still find what he's talking about. It was definitely worth the price. |
Here's the view from our picnic spot. |
Back on the road again it did get a little rocky in spots - but nothing to severe, just a very bumpy road in spots. |
More of that scenic stuff...... |
The sun was starting to get a little lower in the sky and was casting some interesting shadows and highlights on things..... |
Ok, last one for the day..... |
Back on Potash Road and heading up the hill to the Shafer Switchbacks and the highway home. |
