I do a lot of this (scouting the trail ahead) on some of these trails but I usually don't take the camera with me.

It was an interesting trail. A LOT of sand and fairly deep in a few places, but we managed to get through without airing down - for those of you who don't wheel, airing down refers to the practice of letting air out of the tires so that they present more surface to the sand and can driver over it better.
This is so prevelant that they even make a deflator, a device that you preset and then lock in on the pressure you want to let your tires down to and then it shuts off. I've go mine set at 18# which is the way it comes from the factory - should be low ennough to get us unstuck (or prevent us from getting stuck) but aired up enough to keep us from losing a tire off the rim. |

We ran this wash for a ways - more sand and rocks. |
 |
We dined on the patio and put our new chairs to use. We called this one "lunch on God's patio" :))
He ran off when I tried to get the camera, but a little lizard came charging over showing his collar and looking very mean - it was pretty entertaining. So we even had a lunch show at the dinner. |
 |
Some more interesting rocks along the way and another 'face' :(( |
 |
After lunch we decided to head over to Surprise Overlook to check it out - here's the honey, out hiking up the rocks again -

there's the car (I know you're supposed to call it a truck, but it just doesn't look like a 'truck' to me) down at the bottom of the hill.
There's a way to drive up the hill, but it was about 8" deep really soft sand. There were tracks in it where a couple other people had tried before - the tracls didn't go to the top of the hill..... |

After the overlook we headed home. We had come up Gemini Bridges Road and there some pictures of that, but we hadn't gone down it so there were not pictures heading down. This was taken near the top of the road starting back down it. |
