The trail was pretty good starting out. It did have a couple challenging spots but nothing we couldn't handle. Couple shots of those spots a little further down. |
This doesn't look like much, but it turned out that the trail got a lot more challenging as it continued up the hill. This probably wouldn't have given us any trouble, but around the corner there were a couple high ledges to get up and I didn't feel like challening it on my own with no one around if we got into trouble on them so we turned around and headed back. We checked the book and it was a loop and supposed to be fairly easy after you get past this point so we decided to head for the other end of the loop and run it backwards. |
On the way back out I thought I'd get shots of some other the trickier parts we'd come through coming in. This corner took two tries. The first time I started around it I took a bad line and when the car got to about 45 degrees I decided to back up and try a different line. |
The stairs weren't real challenging but the were anohter of the obstacles on the way in. Again picking the right line was important here. It's a shame that the camera doesn't really capture the height of things in these shots. |
Coming in from the other end of the trail there were still some rocks and a few other challenges, but nothing that would challenge us. |
As we pulled up to the old mining shack I proudly announced "Honey we're home!" and she calmly looked over and said "About my Honey Do List - I think you're a little behind." :)))
We stopped here for lunch and then checking the book decided we'd go on up to the caves that were supposed to be the next way point in the book. |
But honey did pop in to the cabin to check it out - we were both impressed with the condition of it considering it's probable age. It was made out of railroad ties and was still pretty sturdy, but it was showing the effects of the wind and elements. |
Humm, this doesn't look like caves, I thought we were going to caves next.
Even going forwards on his routes they can sometimes be a little challenging. Following them backwards proved to be more than we could handle and so we headed off into the unknown. But there were still some good views and "exporing" is what we like to do, so it was an new adventure. |
After a few twist and turns and several attempts to figure out where we were and which way it was to the exit we finally got to a point where we were pretty sure we know the way back to a paved road. In this case we had wandered north a ways and so it was the 70 that we were trying to get to. This proved to be the road home, so the adventure ended as the big road came into sight a few miles on down this road.
As a point of interest the "shot of the day" on the month page was also taken from this same spot looking back the other way. |
