5/3/08 thru 5/18/08- This is along the way on the Willow Springs loop on our 5/3 ride. This is all private property on both sides of the road so there aren't a lot of places to stop, but we pulled over for a second to take a couple pictures and have a sip of water.
 |
The honey enjoys the flowers and the wildlife along the way, so insisted that I take a picture of the wild flowers on the side of the road when we stopped.
There were a lot of cattle, some up close and personal but mostly behind a fence chomping away and keeping the lawn mowed :)) There were also a few deer over in the fields, but they're real skitish and getting a picture of them is difficult from the bike. |

5/4/08 - Our next ride was up to Perdernales Falls State Park, and then back on the back roads. The falls was an interesting place.
We hiked down to a spot overlooking the falls. |
 |
The falls aren't particularly impressive right now, but they had some pictures of what happens down there in a flash flood and I think this is close enough for us - Sheila and I don't run real fast carrying her air tank ;0
There were a lot of people who were down in the falls climbing over the rocks and I'm sure Sheila and I would have been as well a few years back. |
 |
We ran across this little guy out sunning himself on the way back up the hill. He showed some interest in us as we passed by but didn't seem to be overly concerned.
|
 |
It doesn't look like much of a hill in the picture, but it was a fair hike back up and we made it with a slow steady gait and a few stops for Sheila to catch her breath. It was an accomplishment for her and proof that our walks 2 or 3 times a week do help her build the endurance to be able to enjoy these sights.

5/11/08 - Rode around a couple more of the local loops.
A lot of the ranches have these metal cutouts on the gates and entrances to their ranches. One of the most intricate was on the Willow Springs loop, but unfortunately I was by it before I had time to stop and get a picture of it.
This one was on the Yeager Creek Road (I think, not positive where I took this shot)
Click the picture for a closeup of the artwork - it's really an interesting piece. |

Here's another shot on the Yeager Creek Road. That's the creek in the background and a couple horses taking a break in the shade of the trees.
We stopped for a snack and chatted with the horses for a couple minutes but they weren't interested at all and just stood there ground. In fact their lack of motion while we were there was worth noting and it's unusual to see a couple horses stand still out in the open for any length of time.

5/18/08 We just went out for a short ride today as it's supposed to get hot this afternoon.
We decided to go back over to Yeager Creek road and do the whole road as we had just gone part way up it the last time. Along the way we spotted this herd of antelope - click the picture for a closeup.
I don't think they're native to this area, but I'm not an expert. This just looks more like something I'd expect to see on an African safari. |
This final shot was on Creek Rd. Another of the small loop type roads. This detour sign just intrigued me since the road clearly did not go through the field behind it - maybe a local's sense of humor?? All in all it's been a great 3 weeks and we're looking forward to returning next year, possibly a little earlier in the year before the 90+ degree weather get's here. We've had a number of delightful 70's and 80's days, but the weather is definitely starting to warm up so it's time for us to head further north.
