4/7/10 thru 4/21/10- TX, this Ostrich took the cake for this year in Texas - there's a first for everything and this is the first ostrich we've seen on any of our rides. Just had to pull over and get a few pictures of him out strutting his stuff :))
4/10/10 -And of course while I'm off taking pictures of ostriches the honey is patiently waiting ...... Is that a - "are we going to ride or sit around playing with ostriches??" look I see. Guess I better get back to putting :) |

4/10/10 - We continued on to Fredricksville, we had a mission to visit a place there she'd found on the internet and that she throught had US made place mats.... turned out they're made in China like everything else :( but that's another story. On the way back we found a side road to go explore and found one of those "No Outlet" areas to wander around in. We stopped here near the end of the road to get a shot of those dead trees - the trees here have a beauty that survives even the tree itself. |
04/18/10 - "The falls aren't particularly impressive right now" I said in 2008 during the drought, but they've taken on a whole new character this year (see the shot below) We had our yearly picnic at the park and then rode over to the falls parking lot and walked down to the falls. We hung out for awhile watching the youngsters play in the water and then walked back up - not much of a deal for most, but a challenge met and conquered by the honey. It's a fairly steep trail back up. It's those kind of little things that separate the "doers" from the "wanna be's". Honey is a doer :)) |
Compare this picture to the one from 2008 - the drought is over and the falls are flowing again. In fact the creek at Cottonwood Creek flows and so are all the little creeks and streams in the hill country. The "Watch for water on the road" signs are taking on meaning again. It's green again and the flowers and the trees are showing it. |

I really like the rocks as anyone following our travels is bound to know by now and this one with the hole in it really intrigued me - this is at Perdnales Falls and if you look closely (click it to blow it up) you can see the other side of the hole. It really interests me how the water can bore right through the rocks finding the soft spots and eating away at them. If you look closely at the shot above you'll see that the water comes down to the high falls, then disappears and reappears a little further down coming out of another hole in the rocks. There's a big patch of dry rock between the high falls and the lower (closer to you in the picture) falls.

4/19/10 - and of course no trip to Texas is complete without a ride up to the Willow City Loop - google it for some interesting information on the loop. It was a really cool day (in the 50's) and we were all bundled up for the ride but it was worth it. With the drought over the Bluebonnets and all the flowers are back in full force. |
This field of flowers is typical of the sights along the loop. It was just one breath taking view after another this year. They're in the fields, the side of the road, everywhere you looked there were flowers of varying colors set off by a variety of different grasses and varying colors of trees.

Here's a cactus mixed in with a variety of flowers and of course the ever present bluebonnets. Blow this one up so you can really appreciate the colors. |
| and here's what everyone comes for - the bluebonnets. We put off coming until Monday thinking we'd be able to avoid the traffic that way, but it was non-stop cars and motorcycles. I'm glad that we didn't try to do the week-end as it must have been a real mad house there. | |
4/20/10 - Morning Walk - I take my camera with me on my morning walk as you never know what may show up along the way. My walk is along Ranch Road 165 (not my favorite part of the walk as it's a busy, high speed road) for about 1/4 mile and then down the 165 loop, a narrow, quiet back road with a creek running alongside much of it. This shot was of the creek with the morning clouds and trees reflected in it. It looks still but it's actually roaring along - |
Here's an example. You can see the drain pipes in the middle that are there to let the water through so it doesn't flow over this driveway, but there's just too much water for them to handle, so the water is flowing over the driveway and creating a nice falls. There are several of these falls along the road here. |
Here's a shot of an old foot bridge over the creek. I don't think it's in use any more, but it's behind a fence so I didn't go give it a try to see if it was still functional - but I did think about it :))
This final shot was on my morning walk - I spotted these two in a field along the way and the young one headed for the hills as I approached but mom hung out for a little bit to see what I was up to. It's always fun to spot some deer and other critters along the way. Getting a picture of them can be a challenge though as I carry the camera over my shoulder and behind my back, so it takes a minute to get it back around front and get ready to take a picture - so the occassional one I get is a dedictation to all those I saw, but couldn't capture before they disappeared into the trees.
